# Node 5.13 - Upgrade / Tendd Pro

Template: `1-1-welcome.md`. Supersedes the 5.13 section of `../pages/pro.md`.

## Node, type, scope

**Node 5.13 · Upgrade / Tendd Pro · page (gate) · LATER**

Composition was first written from `../pages/pro.md`, `voice/docs/microcopy.md` and our own
research, because cluster 5 was out of the first bank round. **The bank round ran on
2026-08-05, as type I, before the screen was drawn.** It is the one type where the domain half
was fully available (a paywall is the screen every product shows to a stranger) and the one
type where we refuse most of what the category agrees on: six of its thirteen decisions are
refusals of unanimous patterns.

## Purpose and jobs

**This node serves no user job, and that is the honest statement about it.** It is the one
screen in the whole IA that traces to a decision rather than to a job: **D3** for what is paid
and **D4** for what it costs. `../sitemap.md` carries it in the orphan list with that reason
written down, and nothing here invents a job to cover it.

## URL and breadcrumbs

`/upgrade`. **Never a navigation destination.** It is only ever reached from a real gate, and
it always says which gate the person came from. In from node 5.12, from a Pro alert type on
node 3.8, from the Pro depth block on node 4.9, and from the plan row on node 6.16. Out back to
the surface that sent them.

## Content blocks, mobile-first priority

| # | Block | Carries | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Close, and the current plan chip (GC7) | GC7 | Close, not back: this is an interruption of something the person was doing |
| 2 | "Tendd Pro", and one line: "Pay less per month than most of the subscriptions you will cancel." | D4 | The product's own frame: it is measured against the things it finds |
| 3 | **Where you came from**: "You came here from Your trends. History and trends are part of Tendd Pro." | principle 4 | The offer is honest only at the moment the person wants the thing it unlocks, and saying which moment it was is how that stays true |
| 4 | What Pro unlocks: history and trends, advanced alerts, full cancel guides, export | D3 | The list never contains basic visibility, a subscription count or a connection count (D-Free) |
| 5 | Pricing as three tall columns, yearly first with the monthly equivalent: "$69 a year, that is $5.75 a month", then "$7.99 a month", then lifetime | D4 | `[?]` the anchoring order is a testing question, not a settled fact. **Three columns from 2026-08-10**, the same block as node 1.1 block 8 |
| 6 | The lifetime option is the third column, named and priced `[?]` | D4 | Named so it is a decision and not an omission. It was a footnote under the two cards until 2026-08-10; a way to pay that is real enough to name is real enough to stand in the row |
| 7 | "Start Tendd Pro - $69 a year", the amount on the button | D4, principle 4 | The button states what it will charge |
| 8 | "Maybe later", a real exit at the same weight as the primary | principle 1 | |
| 9 | "Pays for itself with the first subscription you cancel." | D4 | |

**Named and not added:** a countdown, an offer that expires, a discount that appears when you
try to leave, a pre-selected plan that is the expensive one, "most people choose this", and any version of
this screen that cannot be dismissed. **"Best value" left this list on 2026-08-10, by founder
decision.** It was written here as one refusal with "most people choose this", and the two are
not the same thing: "most people choose this" is a claim about other people that a person cannot
check, while "Best value" is arithmetic the card shows on the line above it, $69 against twelve
times $7.99. A badge that restates a number already on screen is a label, not pressure. It runs
on node 5.13, on 5.13.3 and on block 8 of the landing. The plan chip in the header is not that badge and stays: it is GC7 stating which
plan you are on right now, which is what makes the offer below it legible, and it sells
nothing (GC1, the exception of 2026-08-10). **Added by the bank round
(type I):** a Free-against-Pro comparison table (Comet), which would have to list what Free
lacks, and Free lacks nothing visible under D-Free; a free trial as the primary offer (Medium,
Ivory), because a trial that converts silently is exactly what this product exists to find;
and a buy button anchored to the bottom of the scroll (Comet), because a control that cannot
be scrolled away from is pressure. The bank already dropped
Monarch's pinned trial countdown from node 2.6 as the texture we refuse; it does not come back
in through the screen that is allowed to sell.

**Where this screen may never appear:** at the cancel moment. D3 names it, node 4.9 puts the
Pro depth below working free steps, and node 4.10 has no gate at all.

## Components and variants

GC1 minimal, or a centred modal on desktop over the screen that sent the person. GC7 Pro Gate
and Plan Chip is specified in `../pages/pro.md` and used everywhere else in the app; this is
its destination.

## States

| Node | State | Reads like | Trigger |
|---|---|---|---|
| - | default | The nine blocks, with block 3 filled by the originating gate | Reached from any gate |
| 5.13.1 | Setting up your plan | "Setting up your Pro plan..." | Payment in progress |
| 5.13.2 | Payment did not go through | "That payment did not go through. Try another method." | Payment failed |
| 5.13.3 | The plan you are on | What is included, when it renews and for how much, and a plain way out | A person already on Pro opens the plan row on node 6.16 |
| 5.13.4 | Pro did not renew | The same fact with a date on it, what is not going anywhere, and one way to fix it | A RENEWAL failed on an account already on Pro |

**5.13.4 was added 2026-08-20, on the founder's go-ahead, and it is the anxious
half of a pair that only had its easy half.** 5.13.2 is a FIRST payment declined:
nothing was ever charged, the person is on Free, and the worst outcome is that
they stay exactly where they already were. 5.13.4 is the other one. The money is
already flowing, the plan is already theirs, and what a normal product sends here
is a red bar about access being lost. For an audience whose whole reason for being
here is money anxiety, that is the single most damaging message the product could
send.

**What the state does, and it is D-Free read out loud.** The thing at risk is
DEPTH, and the calm view is not depth. So the two places a frightened person
actually reads - the fact list and the line under the action - say that the
subscriptions, the monthly total, the basic alerts and this month against last are
Free, uncapped, and are not going anywhere whatever happens to this payment. The
downgrade is real and is named with its date; what it costs is named exactly, and
what it does not cost is named first. The plan chip in the bar still reads Pro,
because it still is, and the close control goes back to the Pro screen and not to
the locked one: sending a paying person to a locked door would be the product
taking away the thing it is telling them it has not taken away.

**No clay and no red**, the same rule 2.7.3 and 5.13.2 already follow: a payment
that did not go through is a fact with a next step.

**There is no success screen.** On success the person is returned to the gate they came from,
with the thing they wanted now open. Celebrating a payment would put the product's most
important emotional beat on the wrong screen: that beat belongs to node 4.10, where the person
saved money rather than spent it.

**5.13.3 was added 2026-08-10, and it closes a contradiction rather than adding a feature.**
Node 6.16 block 3 has always routed "manage plan" here, and this node had no state for a person
who already has Pro, so a subscriber tapping it arrived at an advertisement for what they had
already bought. There was no path anywhere in the map to cancel Pro.

**What the state does.** It states the plan, the renewal date and the amount, and it carries
**"Cancel Tendd Pro"** as a plain action that does not argue, does not counter-offer a discount and
does not ask why. The plan runs to the end of the period already paid for, and the screen says so **above the
action, before the tap**, together with the fact that Pro can be started again at any time.
That is what keeps it inside the voice rule for a dangerous action: `voice/docs/voice.md`
forbids one tap only for the destructive kind, and requires a reversible one to be framed
calmly and to say it is reversible. Nothing is removed at the tap, so this one is. A person who cancels keeps the whole Free product,
uncapped, exactly as D-Free promises, and the screen says that too: the fear at this moment is
that leaving Pro takes the list away, and it does not.

**The ground.** This product's entire promise is that cancelling should be easy, so the one
subscription we control cannot be the hard one. California's auto-renewal law expects
cancellation to be no harder than signing up, so the law and the thesis point the same way.

**Not reused: node 4.10, the cancel-win moment.** Celebrating that somebody left us would be a
joke at their expense, and it would cheapen the one screen the product keeps for a real win.

## Filters and facets

None.

## Primary CTA

**"Start Tendd Pro - $69 a year."** One primary, with a dismissal of equal legibility beside
it.

## Emotional support

**None, and none is invented.** This is the one node in the product where claiming an emotional
mechanism would be dishonest: the screen exists to take money. **E1** holds only through the
voice rules, in that the copy never implies the free person is missing out on being sensible
with their money.

## Responsive

Mobile: full screen, the price above the fold. Desktop: a centred modal over the originating
screen, which keeps the person's place and makes the dismissal obviously safe.

## SEO

**noindex, no schema.** Behind auth and transactional. A public pricing page, if one is ever
published, is a different surface and belongs to node 8.

## Status

**Scope: LATER**, with the whole of cluster 5.
**Locked:** only ever reached from a gate and always naming it, no countdown and no expiring
offer, yearly first with the monthly equivalent, the amount on the button, a dismissal of equal
weight, no success screen.
**Open:** `[?]` the lifetime price ($99 to $139, D4); `[?]` the anchoring order, which is a test
and not a decision. Payment provider specifics are operations, not IA.
**The bank round ran on 2026-08-05** (type I) and the screen was drawn after it, in the second
round of the wireframe stage.
