Responsible betting
What this can cost you, the signs worth watching for, what you can do about it today, and where to get help that is not us.
1. What this document decides
This page is about the part of this product that can cost you money you wanted to keep. It says what a prediction market is and is not, what is worth watching for in yourself, what you can do about it today, where to get help that is not us, and what we have already done on our side.
Two of the tools this page should offer are not built yet, and section 4 says which and what to do instead. A page about self-protection that lists controls you cannot reach would be the worst possible version of this page.
2. What a prediction market is, and what it is not
You are staking money on whether something happens. If it does not, the stake is gone in full. There is no partial return, no consolation and no way to unwind a bet you have confirmed.
A price here is a probability, not a recommendation. YES 38% means the market currently thinks it is a little more likely not to happen than to happen. It is not a signal that you should take either side, and nothing in this product is advice.
This is designed to reward one thing: a view about the world that turns out to be right. It is not designed to reward playing often, playing large, or playing to get even. Nothing here pays you for frequency, there is no streak, no rank and no loot.
3. The signs worth watching for
These are observations, not accusations. They are worth noticing in yourself.
Betting to recover a loss rather than because you have a view. Betting larger after a loss than before it. Betting on events you would not otherwise read about. Checking a position more often than the event actually moves. Betting money that was for something else. Being relieved rather than pleased when a bet comes in.
The first is the one this product treats as most serious, because it is the one that turns a bad day into a bad month. Section 8 says what we do about it.
4. Limits, and what to do while there are none
Account limits are not built yet. A deposit ceiling per period, a loss ceiling per period and a cooldown are decided and reserved, and none of them exists in the product you are using today. They are named here rather than left out, because a person looking for a limit deserves to find out in one sentence that there is not one.
When they are built, they will work in one direction: tightening a limit takes effect at once and loosening one takes a waiting period. That asymmetry is the whole of what makes a limit a limit rather than a setting.
Until then there are two things you can do today. Set a limit at your bank or card provider, which is outside this product and cannot be undone from inside it. Or write to legal@yonder.example and ask us to freeze your account for a period you name, and we will not lift it early even if you ask.
5. Taking a break
A break today is the freeze in section 4: you name a period, we stop deposits and new bets for it, and we do not lift it early.
Positions you already hold are untouched. They resolve on their own schedule and pay out to your balance as normal, because a break is about what you can start, not about what you are owed.
You can withdraw during a break. Stopping you reaching your own money would be a punishment rather than a protection, and this document does not do that.
6. Closing your account, and self-exclusion
Closing an account and self-excluding are different things, and only one of them is available today.
Closing is available now. Write to the address below. Open bets resolve first, because they belong to whoever was right and cannot be unwound; your balance is withdrawn to the wallet you nominate; the account is then closed and section 9 of the Privacy Policy says what stays and what goes.
Self-exclusion, which is longer than a break and cannot be reversed inside its period, is part of the reserved set in section 4 and is not built. Where a law requires it, it is built before this product opens there.
7. Where to get help that is not us
These are independent. None of them goes through this product and none of them tells us anything.
United Kingdom GamCare, 0808 8020 133, gamcare.org.uk. Ireland Problem Gambling Ireland, problemgambling.ie. United States 1-800-GAMBLER, 1800gamblerchat.org. Brazil Jogadores Anonimos, jogadoresanonimos.com.br. Anywhere Gamblers Anonymous, gamblersanonymous.org.
This section is deliberately not a form. A person reading this far needs a number and a link, not a field to fill in.
8. What we do on our side
These are decisions already taken in the product, not requests that you behave well.
A resolution note stands before any re-bet. When an event you held resolves, the screen tells you what happened and why before it offers you anything else, and see next events is deliberately the second action and not the first.
We never notify you about a balance. Every notification this product sends is about an event you took a position on. There is no your balance is low, no add funds prompt and no reminder to come back.
Nothing rewards frequency. There is no streak, no daily bonus, no rank and no leaderboard. The public profile shows a resolved record and nothing that gets better by playing more.
9. Changes to this document
We change this document by publishing a new version with a date. The date at the top of this page is the version you are reading, and the previous version stays reachable.
A limit you have already set is never loosened by a change to this document. If a change would weaken a protection, it applies only to accounts opened after it takes effect.
10. How to reach us about this document
Write to legal@yonder.example for anything on this page: a freeze, a closure, or a question about what is and is not built.
It is read by a person, not by a process, and a reply is sent within five working days. A request to freeze or close an account is acted on the day it arrives and confirmed afterwards, because making you wait for that would be the wrong way round.
